Isn’t this the most beautiful guitar amp ever?
In my music room (happens to be my living room as well) I have a stack of guitar amplifiers: a very old and grumpy Peavey Classic VT 212 and a new Fender Blues Junior III. Great amp, that little one!
But I would gladly swap my Stereo equipment for this ghost from the ‘Jetsons’ past.
It is a Tone King. Its Retro design promises a Vintage sound and that is exactly what Mark Bartel, the designer and company owner, is aiming at: the ultimate in authentic vintage tone and feel.
So don’t get fooled by the Looks: this is a very very serious amplifier, with a very serious price tag, at that.
They come in Black/White, Red/White and this gorgeous Turquoise/White too:

Typography

The default font: Segoe UI is an approachable, open, and friendly typeface, and as a result has better readability than Tahoma, Microsoft Sans Serif, and Arial. It has the characteristics of a humanist sans serif: the varying widths of its capitals (narrow E and S, for instance, compared with Helvetica, where the widths are more alike, fairly wide); the stress and letterforms of its lowercase; and its true italic (rather than an “oblique” or slanted roman, like many industrial-looking sans serifs). The typeface is meant to give the same visual effect on screen and in print. It was designed to be a humanist sans serif with no strong character or distracting quirkiness.

The Title (h1.site-title): Museo Sans by exljbris Font Foundry. Museo Sans is based on the well-known Museo. It is a sturdy, low contrast, fairly geometrical, highly legible sans serif typeface very well suited for any display and text use.
I have stuffed this precious in my very own Typekit.

For my Title’s flexible font-size I am using , a jQuery plugin for inflating web type by the good people of Paravel, found on Trent Walton.

The Description (h2.site-description): second in my Typekit the CarbonType font by Vic Fieger.

In the Previous Post I babbled about mister Pupunzi‘s (or MB) very cool mb.jQuery components. Browsing his component repository I found, and curiously tried, his jQuery.mb.bgndGallery as well.

Do visit my About Page for this utterly refined slide show of background images. Refined being the package itself, not my merely quick and default implementation.

To speed things up getting a proper set of images I organized a new Flickr photoset.

In a previous WebRoll post Lana Del Rey – Official Website I mentioned the (RIDE) big Splash video on her WebPage. Nice indeed, so for that same WebRoll post I found this WordPress plugin mb.YTPlayer for background videos to add a real background video.

The mb.YTPlayer for background videos plugin, created by Pupunzi (or Matteo Bicocchi), is a package containing the jQuery.mb.YTPlayer, a mb.jQuery component. Do pay both his websites a visit: there is some good stuff but especially his mb.ideas.repository is beautiful, Beautiful, really.

~~(Un)fortunately there is some good honest doctering to be done: out-of-the-box the plugin seems or proves rather unreliable~~. Works like a charm in Opera (see the 3 appended images here), ~~utterly whimsical in Firefox and Chrome~~, never ever in MIE. For me, that is, because some browsing through the Plugin Support Forums learns that everybody else is happy.

Update 2012-11-02: 0.6.7 does the trick.

At that moment I was working for my company in Zaandam.
I was pleased with my job … and very pleased with …

Yesterday evening, before hitting the asphalt back home, I visited the AH store beneath the parking-lot, where these two young people, armed with a video-camera and blossoming smiles, tried to capture passers-by.
Normally I would prefer having my head chopped off before … .

She didn’t have any pigtails, but, err well, you know, there was a welcoming sight: countenance and appearance!
She did have that kind of Lonneke Engel pinnule and posture. Not at all that perfect, so perchance even more graceful!

Reflecting on the subject I told them I really wasn’t the man they wanted. They acceded this truth quickly enough but we kept chatting for a while – both guy and girl very relaxed, noticeably enjoying their little project.
They probably have wiped this Ugly Faustus Face already, for all that!

A pleasant encounter.

To be honest: when people tell me something ‘s really HOT … I run the opposite direction. Usually, that is. So Elizabeth ‘Lizzy’ Woolridge Grant is really HOT, people tell me. I did some catching up and looked and listened to Video Games, Born to Die and Blue Jeans. The phrase “you fit me better than my favourite sweater” caught me.

Curious I bought ‘BORN TO DIE‘ and I cannot stop listening to the opening quartet:
The title track ‘Born To Die‘ sets the mood. She sounds like Amanda Lear suffering with severe PMS. These are the Fifties and the Sixties. A bit pompous, a bit pathetic / melodramatic, somewhat plastic fantastic. Said again: I cannot stop listening.
In ‘Off to the races‘ Lana quotes Nabokov: “Light of my life, fire of my loins“. Certainly yes, “Swimming pool glimmering darling / White bikini off with my red nail polish / Watch me in the swimming pool bright blue ripples you”, that is Lolita for you!
‘Blue Jeans‘ sounds familiar, echoing Wicked Game, which is always a good thing. Don’t mind the lyrics too much (“You were sorta punk rock, I grew up on hip hop” … what???), but remember the “favourite sweater”.
Next song is ‘Video Games‘. This is near perfect …

The rest is not that Yabadabadoo: you will hear a bit “Bitter Sweet Symphony‘ in ‘National Anthem’, ‘Radio’ – boring as it may be – makes me want to sing along, and among the 3 Deluxe Bonus Tracks you will encounter this song named ‘Lolita’: “Could be kissing my fruit punch lips in the bright sunshine”. Yeah yeah, could that be?

I wanna hop in my car and drive to Spain, with this Dizzy Miss Lizzy / Dazzling Dolores purring on repeat.

World Literature Opening Phrases Ipsum

In a previous post I referred to Google delicately choosing a paragraph from Franz Kafka’s ‘Die Verwandlung’ as a font showcase bla-bla text.
There is nothing wrong with using the standard Lorem Ipsum text, mind you. Who does not want to use/show the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s.
(Does make you (look) erudite, scholarly and well-educated: haughtily sprinkling some ‘de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum’ by Cicero … and you are the Man/Woman!)

There are some Lorem Ipsum alternatives. Most of them do not make me happy or smile, to put it mildly, except for the notorious Samuel L. Ipsum Lorem Ipsum Generator (motherfucking placeholder text motherfucker!). You know the guy:

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.

Wouldn’t it be great to have a Lorum Ipsum Generator, offering a glorious recapitulation of the World Literature Opening Phrases?

What would I include?
